I started researching Japanese IDM/glitch artists and I’ve stumbled on two that I really like. If you’re into Aphex Twin, Boards of Canada, Autechre etc. you’ll like Ryoji Ikeda and Aoki Takamasa as well! Glitch is seriously my new drug.

This first video is made by a fan, and I love it. This is “Data.Microhelix” from the album “Dataplex” by Ryoji Ikeda.

cyclops’ lament made album of the month!

As you may well know (or not), I re-released my first album, Cyclops’ Lament, a few days ago. My good friend Chris Harris has posted a very nice mini-review of the album as his “Album of the Month September ’09“. Thanks, Chris!

What you don’t know, however, is how I; A) found out he posted a review and link before I ‘officially’ released the album, B) acted like a big baby and freaked out about it a little, and C) gave him essentially little to no props for being so awesome for promoting my stuff. This is because I am a dick, and perhaps do not deserve such recognition. I responded to him with a request to pull his review and link off the interwebs, to wait until I gave the word… my words and actions went against everything I believe. The album was already available online, he found it and linked to it, and I actually expected him to take it down because I wasn’t ‘ready’. I am dumb. Gomen.

As such, this is a public apology to Chris. Check out his website and all his awesome projects he has going on, check out his cool etched glass stuff on etsy, and please let me know if I need to check myself in the future.

Cyclops’ lament was my first album, originally released on Cafepress back in 2003. It was full of glitches, had a crappy cover, cost too much money and wasn’t available for a purchase download. Ugh! Welcome to the Future of Futures, friends. I’m proud of all of you.

Also, I want to say thank you to everyone, because you all helped me. If I met you, you helped me! But for this album especially, I want to thank Deep 14, Walker, Wes, Dan, Danny, Nate and Glenn. Special mention to Triton, Maz and all the demoscene kids who helped me get going. Thanks.

Japanese folk metal industrial – Birushanah

BIRUSHANAH. I found out about these guys from the Tokyo Damage Report site. Osaka natives Birushanah feature traditional Japanese folk music, plus metal, plus some really raw old school industrial, tribal-esque beats. Well, *I* like them. Also, like so many bands I like, they came through Seattle and I missed them. Next time, Gadget. Next time.

Seriously, how can you not like a band that A) has a taiko drum, B) has 2 drummers, and C) one of the drum sets is built out of beer kegs, pots and pans and 50-gallon drums?
