I really like Christmas, if you haven't already heard. This Christmas was a lot of fun, despite the fact that my brother and his Internet Girlfriend™ were in another state. We woke up at 6:30 in the morning on Christmas day and left our apartment at around 7:30. My sister and her husband were already at mom's house, and we were just waiting on our stepbrother to get there. Mom made us pancakes and bacon, and then we opened presents; we usually do it the other way around.
Both Sandy and I got some really good presents, but I think I will have to narrow my favorites down to just 3. So, here we go with the...
I mean, how awesomely cute is this camera case? My camera, a Sony Cybershot DSC-T9, needed a slim case that I can carry in my pocket. All I ever found were large and bulky, and not cute at all. I complained about this and Sandy handmade this little felt case for me. I love stuff like this because it is original, handmade, functional and something I've really needed for awhile now.
I have been waiting for years for this to be released. Bladerunner was the first DVD I owned, and it's also my favorite movie, so of course I dropped plenty of hints that I wanted this set. You can read about it on the Amazon website - this is the one I expected as my "big present". I was in for a surprise.
It's pretty difficult to surprise me at Christmas, but this did it. I never had a Voltron robot as a kid, and I always wanted one. For those of you that are not familiar, there are Vehicle Voltron and Lion Voltron. I always wanted Lion Voltron, but there was really no reason for this preference, since I like both of them equally. The Lion Voltron just seemed a bit more practical, since there are only 5 lion robots that comprise him (there are 15 vehicles that form Vehicle Voltron!). Anyway, I freaked out when I unwrapped it. I had no idea. His fists shoot off! The place Sandy bought it from was the Toy Stable, the subject of my first blog post a couple of months back. The proprietor said they sold Lion Voltron a week prior, and she was sad to see this one go. Through a carefully executed series of maneuvers, Sandy and my parents managed to get me a present I've wanted since I was five years old.

Az over at GaijinSmash.net got me thinking about Voltron with his most recent (and most excellent) post... but that's not what started it. About two weeks ago, a bunch of us set out to find an elusive toy store, hidden away from Human World. One of our party had stumbled on it as if in a waking dream, and promptly forgot the way there - yet we pushed on. After hiring a band of Gypsies to guide us through the Mists into otherworldly Spanaway, WA, we found it: the Toy Stable. It's an actual stable. They have horses.
They ALSO have nearly every "boy" toy you can remember from the 70s, 80s and even the early 90s: Sectaurs, Inhumanoids, He-Man, G.I.Joe, TMNT, Star Wars... the list goes on. They have action figures from M.A.S.H., M.A.S.K., Clash of the Titans(!!) etc. However, what caught my eye was a complete Vehicle Voltron AND a complete Lion Voltron in it's original box! Well, I also found the complete Devastator and realized that I would leave there either $400.00 poorer and very much satisfied, or I would do the right thing and save that money for our upcoming trip to Japan. Japan wins, but not by much - I've wanted Lion Voltron since I was 5 years old.
Maybe if Christmas Fish reads this post I'll get a special gift in my water sock! What?!
